Thanks Wichita

Thanks Wichita

Last week we celebrated our third anniversary with a week-long celebration full of new beers, food, community partners, and bingo. We appreciate the love and support from everyone who came out and supported the events, shared on social media, and ordered the Dirty Jon in order to complete a bingo.

If you weren't able to make it out, we still have new beers on tap for you to try. Our Boysenberry ESB, Blood Orange Pale Ale, and Matt's Melon Mayhem have all been a hit. Thanks for the support Wichita, an we hope to see you in the taproom soon.

Cheers to more years of gnome beers,

Team Gnome

Three Years of Gnome Beers

Three Years of Gnome Beers

It's hard to believe The Gnome has been open for three years. It seems like yesterday I was standing on a ladder finishing up a few details when I saw the first customers walk up to the door. I yelled to Torrey who was still testing out the beer taps and cleaning glassware, "They're coming, let's do this."

I recently attended several different small business workshops to focus on new marketing techniques and networking, but found an overarching message from all of them about the importance of celebrating. Running a business can be very challenging, and it is so easy to get to one milestone or finish one event and immediately move on to the next one. I am guilty of this, in fact, rather than focusing on all the fun we are going to have this week, I am planning June and July events and schedules, as if this week is already over.

We have a lot to celebrate this year and I intend to take some time to reflect and party with our gnome team and customers. From launching the HBIC Sour, to battling construction, and finally opening a new patio, we have found a way to continue to grow and succeed another year and hope that you will stop in this week to celebrate with us.

Hopping Gnome Brewing has had some of the best staff members in Wichita, KS, so as a surprise for our current staff, we decided to commission Heather Byers, our May Final Friday artist to create paintings of all the staff we've ever had. They are currently displayed with the rest of the show and we will keep them in the taproom afterwards.

Collaborating with other local businesses has always been an important part of our business, from promoting other small businesses and non-profits, to partnering with neighbors and other breweries, we know that when we all work together, we all succeed.

We have a fun week of events planned with some of our favorite partners for fun food and snack pairings like Kernel's Popcorn Express, Chef Roberto Simmons, Noble House Hawaiian, Little Lion Ice Cream, Let'em Eat Brats, Monica's Bundt Cake, and Piatto Neapolitan Pizzeria, plus live music with gnome favorite Molly Neeley Trio

We will be tapping three new beers this week with a special Birthday firkin on Saturday

Tues: Boysenberry ESB, Thurs: Blood Orange Pale Ale, Fri: Matt's Melon Mayhem, Sat: Earl Grey ESB Firkin

All events are listed on our Facebook page, we hope to see you this week!

Minors at the Gnome

Minors at the Gnome

Looking back, from the moment we decided to start a taproom without a restaurant, we knew it was going to be hard to tell potential customers toting children that everyone must be 21 to enter. While this wasn't and everyday occurrence, there was always a chance a group of adults with a baby would walk in sometime over the weekend. Our staff would dread this and say "not it" under their breaths, because it was so hard to send people away. No, we didn't hate your kids, it was just a city ordinance that stated we are a drinking establishment, and since we do not serve food, that meant no minors.

Since then, more breweries and local businesses have opened and downtown Wichita is becoming an area people want to explore and hang out, which for many means more kid and pet friendly places are a must.

With many local parents and business owners speaking out, the Wichita City Council passed and ordinance on May 15, 2018 allowing minors in microbreweries until 10pm as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

While we are very excited to be more family friendly, please keep in mind that we are still a small space that serves beer, wine, coffee, popcorn, and chips. We will not be modifying our menu offerings at this time, and ask that everyone be respectful of all patrons whether they are stopping by with their little ones in tow, or enjoying a night away from the kids. We are proud of the diverse community we have created at the Gnome and want to see this continue as we grow and move in to our fourth year of business.

Cheers,

Stacy, HBIC

Warrior IPA is Back

Warrior IPA is Back

Last year, Head Gnome Torrey Lattin decided to brew a double IPA using all Warrior hops. It came out at 7.5% yet it was surprisingly smooth and light on bitterness. This time the Warrior IPA is coming out to play at 9% and is already a hit! With a name like Warrior, team gnome had to have some fun with the social media posts. If you're not familiar with the movie Warriors, you probably don't get the joke. If you like IPAs, you'll love this light and smooth seasonal. Get it in the taproom while it lasts!

Kansas Craft Beer Week Collaboration

Kansas Craft Beer Week Collaboration

Kansas Craft Beer Week has become an amazing celebration across the state! You'll see your favorite local breweries coming together to bring new ideas to life while hosting fun and new events at their locations. Local bars and restaurants across the state will be surrendering their taps to all Kansas beers. Check out the Kansas Craft Beer Week page on social media and be sure to follow the Kansas Craft Beer Alliance for all things craft beer in the Sunflower State.

We just tapped the Prairie Land Delight last night at the gnome. This Wheat IPA collaboration with over 20 Kansas brewers won't be on long at any location...very delightful!

We couldn't be more excited to tap our collaboration with LB. Brewing in Hays, KS Wednesday at 3! Torrey and Stacy first met in Hays while attending Fort Hays State University. Gella's Diner & LB. Brewing had recently opened, and the craft beer scene was still very new in Kansas. Neither had tried very many styles of beer and really started getting into it. This is when Torrey thought he might like to try home brewing...and it is all history from there!

New HBIC Supports Dress for Success Wichita

New HBIC Supports Dress for Success Wichita

On International Women's Day March 8th, the ladies of Hopping Gnome Brewing came together for a ladies brew day for International Women's Brew Collaboration Day. Head Brewer Torreey Lattin went through safety tips while explaining equipment and basic brewing steps so the ladies could do all the heavy lifting and work in order to brew a beer.  Portia Portugal from Dress for Success Wichita joined the ladies in order to represent the organization. Kake news, Wichita.com, and ViP Wichita all helped capture the day and promote the tapping a few weeks later. The HBIC:Ceiling Breaker Peach Sour was tapped March 29th. 15% of sales from the night were donated to Dress for Success Wichita.

The beer is still available in the taproom, along with special glassware and new tees and tanktops!

Sidewalk Patio Now Open

Sidewalk Patio Now Open

The Hopping Gnome Brewing crew paired up with the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the new front sidewalk cafe on March 21.

The patio will be open during regular business hours and is an extension of the current business liquor licence, so it is still 21 to enter.  Service available inside at the bar.

See you soon on the gnome patio!
